Microsoft created the ActiveX program to control object-oriented software components between peer-to-peer, server and cross-application communication. Automation capabilities claim responsibility for the objects created and controlled by ActiveX software.
ActiveX has been made popular in web browsing use because it is capable of transferring data between two similar or different software applications. ActiveX’s programming relates to Plug-In capabilities regarding web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Multi-media based websites frequently use ActiveX because it stands as the best medium for inter-application communication available for use today. The second most common application you may recognize as the steaming cup of Jo rendered when you begin a function mediated by Java Applets. ActiveX and Java work in almost identical ways on the level of implementation.
ActiveX works so well with other applications, you usually won’t notice it’s working, until you encounter an ActiveX Error.
Since web browsers frequently use ActiveX as a plug-in tool, many users encounter errors when loading a web page. Corrupted or incomplete system files may halt ActiveX functioning all together. Always perform regular cleaning of your PC’s registry using a reliable program such as Regcure.
One type of Active X Error arises from property settings on the specific web browser being used to view the web page. You may try to fix this error by going to the Tools Menu and selecting other options under the Internet Security section.
Unfortunately, certain ActiveX errors may take several minutes (even if you’re well versed in computer software) to configure specific settings needed to view the page. Unless you were to lift all security settings on the browser, leaving you wide open to attacks from spyware, Internet propagated viruses, or worms.
You may find yourself unable to download files because your security settings do not support actions by ActiveX. While these security settings are in place for a reason, they often get in the way of simple web browsing tasks and create ActiveX Errors.
ActiveX Errors can even occur on sites such as Windows Update! Ironic, indeed, but without specific plug-in compatibilities or security settings ActiveX will repeatedly send out a “Cannot Find Page” Error.
Errors created by Active X may indicate the presence of a previously downloaded Spyware application. The presence of malicious software commonly presents as the ‘never-ending cascade of pop-ups’.
ActiveX warrants caution of use in it self, since coders are capable of attaching viruses, registry manipulation code or a string of security settings to allow the free flow of exchanged information between your computer and the Internet. Make sure you have installed on your pc, a real-time malware (spyware and adware) protection program.
Of course ActiveX tries to prevent this by giving you a good dose of risk assessment cues by prompting security-warning dialogues, or privacy policies from which you must comply to continue browsing.
Normal ActiveX interactions with you should not be mistaken for ActiveX Errors. Although you may be prompted several times to make a decision, ActiveX will maintain function upon the your permissible click of the “Ok” or “Yes” button.
ActiveX problems are limited specifically to little or no program functionality related to corrupted, incomplete or missing data files.
